Rolf Mellde (above) test drove the Saab engine in his 'DKW Special' at the Skarpnack Rally in 1948, coming first in his class. Svante Holm had the sturdy body construction to thank for his escape (below) with nothing more than concussion following a crash between his test car and a heavy truck.
